Discrete and continuous models for the collective behaviour of active particles

Abstract

I investigate models for the collective behaviour of active particles, focusing on transitions between static and dynamic states. In addition to results for specific models, I seek to obtain a general comprehension of the underlying class of non-equilibrium phase transitions. The main goal is to achieve a systematic understanding of the onset of swarming and of subsequent qualitative transitions in the swarming behaviour.
